Moisture and mold damage

Moisture penetration of components in a building can have various causes: These range from increased condensation due to incorrect heating and ventilation behavior, leaks in the water pipe systems and inadequate sealing of the building envelope.

Moisture damage is usually particularly serious because it goes unnoticed for a long time and by the time it is discovered, mold or even wood-destroying fungi have already formed. This can lead to a significant increase in the damage and thus to a significantly higher renovation effort.

Mold infestation is also a hygiene problem and can pose a health risk for residents. If a building is infected with a wood-destroying fungus, such as dry rot, special attention must be paid to safely repair the damage and save healthy parts of the building structure.

The basic prerequisite for successful renovation is eliminating the cause of the damage. The best way to identify them and determine the actual extent of the damage is through on-site inspections followed by laboratory tests to assess the risk of mold or other germs. With a well-founded renovation concept, unnecessary costs can be avoided. The burden on those affected remains lower and the success of the renovation can be verified.
